68000 Microprocessor Unit

Model: MC68000

The 6800 microprocessor unit’s main board comprises of 68000 CPU with 8MHz clock, eight main microprocessor, support devices and a range of connections for various digital/analogue I/O. The systems facilitates an MC68010, 64k of static RAM MC68681 DUART, MC68230 PIT, 16/64 word EEPROM, built in monitor, ROM based Editor with integral assembler terminal. Reset button, abort button, traffic lights LED’s, halt red warning LED, EEPROM (serial), SRAM, DUART, PIT, four jumper selectors, 8 and 16-bit I/O and two serial ports.

Connection to a PC is possible using a suitable interface cable connection to the hosts RS232 port. Programming software to generate code for the 68000 microprocessors. You can program in ‘C’, assembler or both to generate relocatable, romable code.

The microprocessor and microprocessor based systems and how to program them in the various high and low level dialects are areas of study. Simple or complex experiments are possible by linking the range of devices and sensors to the MC6000. Double row headers that accept standard IDC connectors are used to connect I/O with the outside world.

There are a variety of projects for the student to carry out using the on board assets. Exercises include setting a host terminal for communication with the DUART, using the Editor program to write simplex and complex programs.
