Magnetic Levitation System

The Magnetic Levitation Systems (MLS) demonstrates the principles of the Magnetic Levitation Phenomena, found in applications such as transportation - magnetic levitated trains. The MLS uses analogue and digital solutions to maintain a metallic ball in and electromagnetic field. This is a single Degree of Freedom system for teaching of control systems; signal analysis, real-time control applications such as MATLAB. The MLS is non linear, open-loop unstable and time varying dynamical system. The object position is determined through a sensor. The coil current is measured to explore identification and multi loop or non linear control strategies.

Teaching materials include: System identification, SISO, MISO, BIBO controllers design, Intelligent/Adaptive control, Frequency analysis, Non linear control, Hardware-in-the-loop, Real-time control, Closed loop PID Control. The system is complete with toolbox for MATLAB/Simm link.
