The Ultrasonic Transducer Trainer has been developed to teach the principles and applications of low power ultrasound transducer. The USTT contains a number of different types of, hardware which can be interfaced to transducer and a variety of test pieces. PC based coursework is supplied that introduces the principles behind the main topics of interest utilising hardware from the USTT. Coursework is supported with MatLab programmes, documents and laboratories.
- Propagation of ultrasound through a medium
- Designed and calibration of ultrasound transducers
- Wave Propagation modes (including longitudinal, shear and surface wave)
- Propagation modes
- Plate waves, measurements of material properties
- Application in inspection, sensing systems and industrial monitoring
- Pulse generation to drive the ultrasonic transducers
- An amplifier to amplify ultrasonic signals from the transducers
- Broad-band amplifiers for use with PVDF transducers
- Power controllers to drive the motor used in the vibration experiment
- Voltage regulators to supply the correct power to various parts of the circuitry
- Vibration and SAW Oscillator demonstration two separate functions: machine and acoustic emissions monitoring, and the use of SAW (surface acoustic wave) mode crystals oscillators as temperature sensors
